Good to Know...

 The office will be closed November 11 in recognition of Veterans Day.

Judicial Screening Committee Issues Evaluations

The Albany County Bar Association’s Judicial Screening Committee recently convened to interview and evaluate five judicial candidates who are running for judicial positions covering Albany County and who requested an evaluation.  In evaluating the nominees, the Association’s Judicial Screening Committee considers: judicial temperament, legal ability and experience; legal writing ability; general reputation, character and fitness; industriousness, diligence and promptness; and impartiality, freedom from bias and prejudice.  Based on those evaluations, the Albany County Bar Association’s Judicial Screening Committee has rated the candidates as follows: 

Candidates for Supreme Court, 3rd Judicial District

Justin O. Corcoran – Well Qualified

Lisa M. Fisher – Qualified


Candidates for Albany County Family Court

Richard Rivera – Well Qualified

Judge Margaret T. Walsh – Outstanding


Candidate for Albany County Surrogate’s Court

Stacy L. Pettit – Well Qualified



On September 16, 2014 the ACBA hosted the portrait dedication ceremony for recently retired Judge Joseph C. Teresi. Officials and judiciary from across the area attended this standing room only event.

The New York State Commision on Judicial Nomination is seeking recommendations and applications of persons who may be qualified to serve as an Associate Judge of the Court of Appeals in anticipation of Judge Smith's mandatory retirement on January 1, 2015. Barbara Davis retires from the ACBA after 28 years! Many of her past presidents gathered to wish her good luck in retirement at her party on June 12, 2014.
